Benny's Spirit Continues To Be
An Inspiration For Us All!
We
are once again having our annual lemonade stand dedicated In
Loving Memory of Benny Petz, Junior Police K-9 Handler for the
2005 Desert Dog Police K-9 Trials. At the time Benny was our
honored guest at the K-9 Trials, he was in remission and NED, no
evidence of disease. The Monday after the 2005 K-9 Trials, Benny left
with his family for a fun filled week at Disneyland, where he
could forget all about his illness, being stuck, poked, X-Rayed,
hospitals, doctors, medications that make you feel worse, MRI's,
and instead just enjoy being a kid having fun with his family.
Later that same year, Benny was diagnosed as having relapsed.
Benny's family never gave up searching for a treatment that would
cure Benny of the Neuroblastoma cancer ravaging his little body,
but sadly, all they could do was to try and buy him more time and
keep him pain free. Although the cancer ate away at Benny's body,
it never broke his spirit. Benny was determined to hold on so he
could see and hold his new little brother, Ami, and that's just
what Benny did. Benny passed away 2 weeks after little Ami was
born, on June 27th, 2006, exactly one month after his 5th
birthday.
It is because of Benny's tragic and
untimely death, all of the children horribly lost to pediatric
cancer, and especially all of the children who are now fighting
for their lives, as to why we continue our goal of raising
awareness and the much needed funding to find the cures needed
to eradicate pediatric cancer. There are lots of children
currently affected by pediatric cancer, with many more who will be
diagnosed in the near future. There is so little government
funding provided for pediatric cancer research, so it is up to us,
the public, the parents, the grandparents, brothers, sisters,
nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, to roll up our sleeves and
get involved in the fund raising efforts for this worthy cause. We
know these are tough economic times, which is why we hope you will
support us even more this year so the much needed research for a
cure can continue. There are children's lives depending on us, we
can't let them down.
